Plan of Action

Here are a few action plans for getting going.  Pick one that works for you or create your own with some of these ideas.

The “One Step at a Time” Plan

Phase 1:  Start with a 90-Day everyday food storage plan.  To find a detailed post on getting started with that click here.

Phase 2:  When that is done start collecting your longer term food storage.  For a post on that click here.  This may take a while depending on your budget.  Make a list of what you need, decide how much you can spend each week or month and check off items as they are gathered.

Phase 3:  Every third month take your budgeted amount and use it to collect alternative cooking sources, emergency preparedness items such as 72-hr kit supplies, water purification items, etc., until you come to a point where you feel you have what you need.  Make sure you maintain your stores!

The “I Need You To Tell Me What To Buy Plan” #1

This plan was given to me from the Barnes Park Ward in Kaysville, Utah.  They credit the 6th ward who developed most of the program (over 10 years ago).  I would love to give credit if I knew who.

This is a one year plan with a weekly purchasing schedule.  Here are the instructions:

  1. Purchase weekly item. (switch food items around if you find a great sale)
  2. Use a permanent marker and write dates (month & year) on food to aid in rotation.
  3. Buy the largest amount you can sensibly afford.  It is better to buy something than nothing.
  4. Replace items as you use them watching for sales.
  5. If you miss a week don’t worry, skip to the next and keep going.
